This course introduces students to elements of diversity and continuity in the scriptures, beliefs, practices, spirituality, history, institutions, philosophies, theologies, and political ideas of Islam.  Although the course is text based, students will normally encounter contemporary expressions of Islam through some combination of film, music, site visits, and guest speakers.
